Hello!  I'm new on here.

I've idolised Elizabeth I all my life, have tonnes of books and things on the Tudors ... but have only just realised they're now popular on the net too.  Woohoo!

I've thrown myself in at the deep end role playing Elizabeth on Twitter and a new RPG forum among a flurry of Henry's wives and am finding it deeply addictive.

If anyone wants to come join the role playing then please do.  I am in desperate need of courtiers as I'm outnumbered by Henry's wives and fiercely hounded by the Queen of Scots, LOL!

I've watched so many films and TV programmes relating to The Tudors that I couldn't really pick a favourite.  But my earliest points of referance were Young bess and Anne of The Thousand Days so I'm always very fond of those two.

Has anyone seen the new Vivienne Westwood range with the Tudor Rose emblazined on it?  I went mad at the weekend and bought myself the blue cape.  I love it.  I may have to be surgically removed from it.

Oooh, and there's a brand new Elizabeth website just been launched by the creator of The Anne Boleyn Files:
www.elizabethfiles.com/

I think that's about it, for now, LOL!

Hope this is ok to post!

If anyone has any questions for Leanda de Lisle, the author of 'The Sisters Who Would Be Queen: The Tragedy of Mary, Katherine and Lady Jane Grey', she will be answering them at my blog.

This is Hever's latest acquisition which was painted in the early 16th century as a tribute to Henry's mother. The wording at the top says 'Elizabet Mater Henericus 8'.
Also for [info]ladyjanegreyref,  I managed to find a picture very similar to Hever's portrait of Catherine of Aragon on the net. I've cropped the photo so it looks more like the one in the Queens Chamber. The photo of Elizabeth is courtesy of the BBC.

Hello, my name is Emily and I recently joined LJ today. I am a very big fan of Henry Tudor, Anne Boleyn and Henry's other wives. I have read a lot about King Henry and I am also a fan of the show The Tudors. I am new to Live Journal (thanks to the help of my best friend who set up a journal for me!)

I would like to make some new friends who share some common interests with me. I am also into writing and would like to try role playing if anyone is interested.

I hope this entry is allowed (i'm not quite sure of the rules of Live Journal yet!)

Nice to meet you all.

The deep cleaning of Hever Castle is well under way and for the last 3 days we've been in Henry's room. All was going well we'd cleaned all the furniture, brushed down the panelling, cleaned the pictures, given the Ivory room a hoover and decobwebbed it. Found the biggest spider, I told Jan (scared stiff of them) to leave but she wanted to know how big. When she saw it she released a scream that could've been heard in Edenbridge. I took some photos of the beautiful tapestries that line the walls of the Ivory Room but my phone is playing up and won't let me download them.
Anyway the reason why yesterday was different is because David Starkey was recording in the castle for his new tv series about his book Henry: Virtuous Prince. We watched some of the taping but we had to reassemble Henry's room as they usually use that room and the Queens chamber. I had to walk right past him so I could return a chair to it's rightful position, twice! He's put on a bit of weight and seemed a bit grumpy. Oh well.

Last Tuesday I went to Bluewater and one of the first shops I visited was Waterstones *yay* love bookshops! Anyway I made a beeline for the british history section and they had David Starkey's new hardback book 'Henry - Virtuous Prince' at half price and the hubby bought it for me for christmas!
Also, for my birthday, my brother in law bought me 'Mary Tudor' by Linda Porter. I've just finished Alison Weir's Katherine Swynford so Mary is next on my to read list. So what I was curious about is - has anyone else read or is reading either of these books? If that's a yes I'd love to hear your opinion.
